A Little Volunteering Goes A Long way

Last summer before Alex was born, a coworker informed me of a big consignment event called the "Kids Exchange". It is an awesome event held twice a year at the Fairgrounds and this year I decided to volunteer. My first shift was on the first day that people were able to drop items off. I was assigned to the stroller section which means people would drop off their stroller(s) to me and I would organize them (double stroller, jogger stroller, travel system, etc.). I was glad I got this area as Charles wanted a jogging stroller so it allowed me stake out the good ones. However, it also meant that I had to handle/touch EVERY SINGLE STROLLER that was dropped off. I touched at least 100 strollers during this 3 hour time span. While I enjoyed myself, driving home all I could think about was "You gotta wash your hands, you gotta wash your hands."
Volunteering allowed me and Charles to shop early (ahead of the public sale). It was upon our arrival that I remembered last year seeing people with shopping carts, toy wagon, portable hanging racks, anything on wheels, for them to carry all there stuff around. Charles and I looked at each other and laughed. While we didn't bring anything for our stuff, we did have a plan for what we wanted to purchase....high chairs, jogging stroller, car seat, exersaucer. I'm pleased to say we walked away with it all!!! Nothing over $30.
I returned for my final shift on Sunday. Sorting day. Yikes, that's another experience. Let's just say I was tired when I went home!
I organized all of these. When I returned a day and a half later, this entire area was full and extended.
More good stuff!
"POOP happens" but look how cool I am!
My FIRST high chair!
Please put my food rrrright here.
You're too slow, let me see that spoon.
How can one be so happy with a messy face like this?
I'm learning at a young age, you gotta hold on when dad's driving. Just kidding he's a safe driver.
"For real Aunt Kim?"
"Hey, what's this new thing joining me in my crib?" I see my friend Mr. Monkey, Mr. Lion, Mr. Giraffe

New Year...the year of "first"

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We are THANKFUL to be able to say we made it to another year. This year will be pretty exciting for me and Charles as we are expecting this year to be the year of many "first" for Alex. So don't be surprised if you check the blog and we're talking about another "first". : )

Here are a couple pics to catch you up.
Christmas with the Long Family. Great time! Great food! We had to take a picture near someone's tree. Hahaha! And yes, we did get one for next year. Give us a break!
Blame me (Tameka)...yes, I wrapped this ribbon around him. I thought it was funny! And NO you can't purchase one like this at Belk. Sorry!!!

OMG look at all the toys from my family.
It's the FIRST day of the year. I slept in the crib for the FIRST time this same night.
It's my FIRST meal from a spoon. Dad fed me while mom tried to record the moment and keep my hands down so I would stop reaching for the bowl.
