Here's our boy. Our boy! Our boy!

Alex Anderson Whitaker
Born: August 2
Time: 8:41pm
Weight: 8 lbs. 2 oz.
Length: 21 1/2 inches

Well we finally got the call to come to the hospital to begin the induction around 10:30pm on Monday night. Shortly after I finished walking outside and taking a warm bath. I was checked in, laying in the bed by 12am. They started the induction process and then we just waited (meaning slept). Things went well and I continued to have contractions and make progress nicely. I did eventually get an epidural, but that was always the plan. I was worried about having a contraction during the middle of the procedure, but the small one I had, the nurse helped me breathe through it. While none of the nurses will ever read this blog, I just have to give mad props to the nurses I had while in the hospital. THEY WERE AWESOME!! AWESOME!! AWESOME!! The personality of each of them really helped keep me calm.

The interesting part came when I wouldn't dilate past 8cm and the kid's body was still "up in my chest". Now this is feeling that I had been dealing with for at least two months now. I knew that I would either have to walk around or just wait for "the kid" to come on down. Walking was out of the question b/c of the epidural, so we tried laying me on my right side. I knew moving me to my right side would just make "the kid" move to the right side and not necessarily down, but I'll do what you say. Nothing! Then we tried the left side. Nothing! Then they said we might have to do a C-section...my mind immediately said OK!!! I think I even told the Dr. "Let's Make it Happen, I'm so over this." Again I felt kind of selfish being that I wasn't in that much pain, but I was just getting bored. C-section here we come!

Charles accompanied me to the C-section. The Dr. asked him if he was "skirmish". He said he didn't think so. So she said that when "the kid" comes out, she was going to ask him to stand up, look at "the kid" and he could tell me the gender. The time came. Charles stood up and then didn't say anything for about what felt like 15 seconds, real time more like 4 seconds. He then said "oh, it's a boy." I replied quickly "oh ok". I saw Alex for a second and then they were off to get cleaned up. I laid on the table SHAKING from the cold as they finished the procedure. All went well. Moved to recovery and then to my final room where I was soon greeted by family and friends. Great experience! I honestly am thankful for the calm sense of mind that I was able to maintain throughout this entire process. I REALLY think that helped.

Now to the pictures of ALEX...YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
