Are ALMOST 2 year old supposed to be able to identify the alphabet (except 2 letters...R & W)?
This morning Alex took the book "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom", which Alex calls "Boom Boom" to Charles for him to read. I wasn't downstairs to hear whether Alex took it to him and said "read" or "open" both of which he has done before/often. So Charles read him the book and at the end showed him the back of the book which shows the entire alphabet. Charles pointed to every letter and except for R & W, Alex said each one. Once he got to "M" all so clearly, I was standing in the kitchen thinking "Wow where's my video camera." Alex wasn't paying attention to me so I didn't want to move around a lot and distract his focus. We knew Alex could identify his letters as they lay all around the house, but this is probably the FIRST time I've heard him go from A-Z. He and Charles clapped after they got to Z and then Charles looked back to see if I was watching. He then asked the question of the morning...Are 2 year old supposed to know their alphabet? I said I don't know, ask you mom. Hahaha!
In my pregnancy I kept my reading to a minimum about what's supposed to happen and how things feel b/c everything doesn't happen to everybody. I've kept that same type of philosophy in watching Alex learn. All children don't learn things at the same age or pace, but eventually they all get it. I've never had a child before or even been around one at this age to watch and understand the learning that takes place, so it's all new for me...and Charles too.
I keep this blog not to brag b/c that's not me, but as a way of recording what's going on in our lives. I have lots of friends with children younger than Alex, so please DON'T COMPARE. Remember I tried not to give you advice during your pregnancy, unless you asked which then generally I couldn't remember, so again I'm not telling you that your child should be able to do this.
Picture time!!!!
Oh yeah it's me and Dad, hanging out!
Alex and Sonny hung out last week.
Waiting in the drive thru at KFC.
He randomly used his sign language. Good thinking I was in the drive thru.
Random recordings
- tries to count to 13, still stumbles at the number 7, but then keeps going
- tries to count to 13, still stumbles at the number 7, but then keeps going
- starting to repeat what you say...so watch it!
- knows circle, octagon, triangle
- knows red, orange orange (as he likes to say), green, yellow (well-o), blue, purple, white

Mom and Dad are doing such a grat job with Alex. He is above other kids his age and at this rate he will be reading before 4. Joy, Christina and I were reading at 4 years of age but we love it and still do. Parenting makes a big difference! Keep up the wonderful work and you know the grandparents will always be there.
