The Party!!

So as I mentioned in a previous birthday post, all Alex wanted to do was play a baseball game for his birthday. I wasn't really feeling this because it's hot and let's be honest, I didn't think anyone else would like it. Not that it mattered because it was his birthday, but still. Anyway. He continued to request this game so I decided to figure out how to make it work. I like organizing and planning parties and I thought if this is all he wants...JUST DO IT!

I started investigating how to reserve the gym for a few hours at the community center because I still wasn't trying to be outside (hot). While the cost was reasonable, I just wasn't ready to commit. There were also 3 baseball fields near my parents house that if we went out there at the right time, it might be alright. So I started checking the field for shade around the time I was thinking of having the party. When I saw shade on the lower field around 6pm, I said let's do it!

The invitation went out and informed everyone that Alex was expecting both young and the more "senior-ed" guest to play. While the game was the priority and simple food (hotdogs) was on the menu, I still had to make it slightly a little more baseball themed. You'll see in the pictures.

Game/party day came and the field was shady as expected so I was happy. Still hot, but we had coolers on deck so no dehydration. The laughter behind everyone playing and having fun was in full effect so the fun began. I have no idea how the teams were picked, but we all got out there. It kinda ended up Alex and whoever he wanted vs. Mommy and the rest of the folks.

1st up - Alex Whitaker

No waiting in the dugout, just stand around.
Tony giving that ball all he had as if there was a prize.

Next Team up...
Go Me! Oh wait is that headed right at Charles (the pitcher)
Jonathan
Some haters trying to block me from getting to second base.
Play Ball!

Young and "senior-ed" honoring Alex's wishes

This picture makes me so happy. There were sooooo many people on that field. Hahaha!
Honored that so many people participated.

Uncle Randy for the pop up. Hahaha. Sike. I don't remember.

Partners

Yep Nana played+ too!

Well Alana couldn't play and stayed on that side of the fence so that she wouldn't get in the way.

My little touches of the baseball theme coming out.
When is the last time you had Cracker Jacks?

Alex and Friends

Yes to the baseball pinata!

She may not have been able to play baseball, but she did ask to swing at the pinata.

The candy pick up before you go home and eat it.

While I didn't do number 6 cookies b/c let's face it during the move I'm not sure where the cookie cutters are, I decided on a baseball cake.

It was cool, but I'll keep showing you pictures from an angle. Hahahaha!
However, Alex knew it was a baseball so I didn't care what anyone else thought.
Oh yeah, I made it (chocolate cake as requested).

Yes he's blowing out the candles, but do you see the bags of peanuts on the table. Yes more little baseball theme touches. I had bags of popcorn and some Big League bubble gum too.

Some of the smaller guest. It was a pleasure having young and "senior-ed".

I'm so glad we went thru with Alex's wishes! This was so fun! Not just my own judgement, but others saying how much fun they had. While we didn't play the game for long and the score didn't really matter, the laughs and smiles are great memories. Alex saw me typing this blog and has now asked me to print some of the pictures. So I'm off to my next task.
